This poem is for anyone who has ever lost a loved one. If your loved one could talk, this is what they would say to you. I hope you find peace and comfort here.

This poem originally was published in Sad Poems - Poems about Death

I Want You To Know
A brief moment of darkness
was all that I knew,
before Heaven's Gate
came into my view.

Loved ones and friends
I had missed for many years,
welcomed me with open arms
and many happy tears.

All the hurt, fear and pain
that I have ever known,
is gone from my life,
I am finally home.

I gazed upon the Lord's
sweet smiling face,
and for the first time in my life
I knew and felt His grace.

I know that you miss me,
but please dry your eyes.
I will always be watching and loving you
from my home in the sky.

A cool breeze on your face,
a touch of light rain,
I will send as a reminder
that we will be reunited again.

Life on earth is but one
brief moment in time,
I am finally home,
Eternity is mine.

As so many others think, this is a very soothing and beautiful poem. My sister lost her life about a month ago by one mans selfish and violent act. If she could tell us anything it would be pretty close to what is said in your poem. It has touched and comforted my heart and I Thank You for sharing it with the rest of us.

i LOST MY MOM A YEAR AGO COME JULY, I HAD A REALLY TOUGH TIME EXCEPTING HER BEING GONE. FOR SHE WAS NOT ILL EXCEPT FOR A BAD COLD. THAT TURNED DEADLY WITHIN 5 DAYS WE LOST HER. SHE WAS THE CENTRE OF MY WORLD AND I FELT LIKE I TOOK THAT FOR GRANTED THAT SHE WOULD ALWAYS BE THERE WITH ME. WHILE I WENT THROUGH A MAJOR DEPRESSION AND LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE OVER THIS YEAR. THE ONE THING THAT KEPT ME GOING WAS FINDING MEANINGFUL POEMS LIKE THIS ONE.

I am burying my 18 year old brother in law this weekend. He was drinking and ran a red light. He hit a car full of girls and wrapped his car around a pole. Only one girl survived. Four died. This poem brought peace to my heart after hurting so much for my sister who has to raise their baby by herself. My sister is only 19 and shouldn't have to pick out what is he is going to be buried in. He will never see his only son turn one and will miss his first Father's Day. We know he made a mistake and killed other innocents, but this driver had a family too. And his family loves and misses him.

Although, he did not know it was going to happen, he is and will over be watching over us! Tina A Beloved Sister

This is a truely lovely poem that sums up so many things that we need to remember about death. Mainly that it is very likely that the deceased are in a far better place than we are! Angela, I lost my "Mama" to Sinus cancer on Nov 19, 2004. She lived and died a Christian: I know Jesus came and took her out of her pain and suffering to live Eternal Life in Heaven. If she could have written something to comfort me after her passing she would have. I have searched for something to read to help my grief. Your Poem is the only thing I have found that sounds just like what she would say to be today. May God Bless you Angela! This poem is the only comfort I have found. Thank you so much. Julia

The first time I heard this poem was at a 17 year olds' funeral. The essence of our struggles understanding the fine line between life and death have been put into words like I have never read or heard before. I have been searching for hours to find your poem, Angela, so that I may share it tomorrow at a dear friends' viewing (I didn't think I would find it). Thank you, thank you, thank you...And God bless you

Thank you so much for this beautiful poem. My cousin passed away a few days ago after being trapped in a burning house. I've been trying so hard to make sense of this horrible tragedy, trying to understand what the fire must have been like through her eyes...now I've put that aside and am seeing what entering heaven for the first time might have been like instead. It will be an honor to read your poem at the burial in the cemetary tomorrow - I'm doing so in hopes that others in attendance will be able to gain some comfort from your insight just as I did. Again, thank you!

  • Holly
This poem was excellent. It really touched my heart. You are very creative. Most people write about the way they feel when someone passes away. I liked the way that you showed the feelings from another perspective and point of view. This poem is one of my favorites. When I was very young, my father passed away unexpectedly. This broke my heart. I have to go through life without a father now but I never really thought that this might be what he might say. But you really said it right. I'm sure others who have passed on say this but we can't hear them. This poem was really sweet and I liked it a lot

I really like this poem because it makes death less dreary and saddening like how other people feels. It makes me realize there is another world out there, like another level of life. But this life has no pain. Everybody is loving and caring for eachother. And this life you would live for an eternity

My Uncle just passed away less than a month ago and he was the absolute light of my life. A few years ago he had finally found God and excepted him into his life and he would always say the things Angela says in this poem to me. I know he wants us all to know that he is better off where he is and that is where he is meant to be and that we will all join him in eternity someday. I want you to please pick Angela's poem. And If you read this Angela...Thank you for helping me understand what he meant when he said these things and for helping me grieve.

MY AUNT WAS RECENTLY BRUTALLY MURDERED AND SHE MEANT SO MUCH TO ME, AS IF SHE WERE A SECOND MOTHER TO ME. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO COPE WITH THIS TRADGEDY AND I FIND THAT IT GETS HARDER EVERY DAY. YOU SEE IT WAS MY COUSIN, HER OWN DAUGHTER WHO DID IT SO I DEAL WITH IT ON A DAILY BASIS. THIS POEM TOUCHES MY HEART AND MY SOUL. IT HELPS ME TO REALIZE THAT SHE WILL ALWAYS BE HERE EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T TOUCH HER.
