About this time last year we found out my maternal grandmother had a terminal neurological disorder. She deteriorated quickly. My mother, a Registered Nurse and our family decided to take my grandma in to hospice her at home. The strong and courageous woman my mother is, turned into a frail, thin exhausted woman by the end. As the end neared my mother talks of sitting at my grandmother's bedside and listening to her watch. My mother now wears this watch so her mother is never far away. I dedicate this poem to my mother's dedication in assuring my grandmother died with dignity. God bless you mom and rest in peace grandma!

Mother's Watch
I sit beside you, Mom
On death’s doorstep you lay
I set my head upon your wrist
As I bow my head to pray

The world to me shut off
The silence here is thick
Alone just you and I
And your watch’s rhythmic tick

I block out all my pain
And loss I’m sure to feel
I concentrate now deeply
On the tick your watch reveals

I sit here now for days
And hear the rhythmic sound
I contemplate you being gone
The thought now seems profound

The time for you is near
To enter Heaven’s Gate
I’ll stay here by your side
Until your journey is complete

It’s months now since you’ve passed
My wounds are healing slow
I want so much to hear your voice
To see your smile’s glow

I lay my head upon my wrist
When my feelings are too strong
I hear your watch’s rhythmic tick
And know you’re never gone

Andrea: I just lost my momma on January 13th, 2007. I was by her beside until she took her last breath. I know that she is not suffering anymore. She was only 75 yrs. old. I miss her terribly. She had been in the nursing home for three years now, dementia and diabetes took her away from me. Your poem has touched me and has helped to ease the pain. If I need to hear her heartbeat, I only have to put my wrist against my ear to feel her heartbeat. I love you momma. I miss you so much. See you in Heaven.

i love your poem, it really touched my heart. my mother passed away about 3 years ago on mother's day. it's still very hard to deal with because i was with her when it happened. but just by reading this poem it helped to realize that even though she is not here with me, she will still never be far from my heart.

Isat beside my mom April 21, 2005 and watched her take her last breath, telling her to go and be free, but telling her not to go when it finally happened. I miss her so and there has never been a more difficult thing in my life than telling my mother goodbye. I love you MOM!

This poem truly touched my heart! My Mom passed away July 2004 and I sat by her bedside until she died with my head rested on her hand next to her favorite watch, which I know have. I can certainly relate and it's been awhile since I have cried for her but this brought back a lot to me. Thank you for helping me see her loss in a different way and to keep her memory alive!

My mother passed away a few weeks ago, on my 18th birthday. Just as many others who have left comments, I was the only one there taking care of my mother up until her passing. This peom brought a tear to my eye. I was really touched. Thank you for helping me express how I feel through your work. God bless.

this particular poem means a lot o me simply because my mother died at the begining of the year. I'am at the moment quite down and reading this poem gives me the feeling that my mother still lives besides me and in some ways its comforting in but some other ways makes u realise that the one person who inspired you has gone.

Wonderful poem. April 1,2003 I lost my beautiful, prescious mother and best friend. I too sat at her side and when it was finally her time with my eyes closed, I felt her spirit leave her body. I opened my eyes and her face was all a glow and she had the prettiest smile. I thought to myself, she's Home. I really thought I was going to die when she did. I think somehow she gave me the strength I needed to go on. I will never ever forget her. Thank You for your Poem it brought back many memories, good and bad. Mostly good. God Bless You.

I lost my son last year. It is as though I wrote the poem myself, and I can really relate to this poem. Moreover, my mother passed away when I was 16 years old, and she too suffered a great deal of pain. What a wonderful poem you wrote. Thanks for reading my comment, God bless.

This is such a touching and personal poem for me. I held my precious Mom, my best friend, as she was dying due to having Acute Leukemia. My Mom had her watch on and I can remember laying my head on her and hearing her watch. That was Feb. 25th, 2004, I will never forget that day as long as I live. At 4:02am that morning my precious Mom took her Heavenly flight to be with her Jesus. Although my Mom left me body wise, I know she is still with me in my heart. As each day goes by the pain is still there just as it was the moment she took her last breath, but now instaed of the taers controlling me I am finally able to control the tears. I miss you Mommy but I know that I will be with you in Heaven. Thank You for sharing your beautiful poem. God Bless, Mary

This poem touched me as a writer. I have had years of estrangement with my mother who is now dying with cancer. Several weeks ago I wrote her a letter that she rejected. Reading this poem gave me a moment's peace and good thoughts for this woman I grieve who could never forgive me.

My mother died from the ravages of Altheimer's. I sat with her to await her visit from the Angel of Death. I remember that I fell alseep and woke in a start thinking my mother had left without my being there for her. When my mother left, I took her watch from her wrist and placed it on my wrist. I wear it everyday. Thanks, the words are thoughtful.

This is a lovely and moving poem. It expresses exactly how I felt when I was driving my mom to the hospital as she was dying from cancer. She died in the arms of my son before we reached the hospital. May God bless you and grant your grandma and my mom eternal peace.

This poem touched me. my motehr passed away when i was 2 years old, but i do remember the day when she died. i remember having to go up to the hospital bed and kiss her forehead when the doctors had pronounced her dead. I kissed her goodbye and said "i love you mommy. " i had no idea that would be the last time i would see ehr. Everyday i feel the pain of not having her in my life, thank you for writing this poem. all those who have lost a mother or another loved one are in my prayers. i hope i am in yours.

This poem really touched me, Andrea. I just lost my Mom on the 8th of March. She always wore a watch and for the longest time we did not know what had happened to it. still don't. It always seemed to bother her being without it even though she had brain trauma and had 2 brain surgeries within 2 mo's at the age of 95 leaving her aphasiac, she wanted to know what time it was. So. I gave her a watch this last Christmas and she was delighted. Nothing special, just a simple watch, but she never had it off her wrist except when she was showered since she opened the box. I removed it from her wrist after her final breath and have been wearing it since. So. you can wellunderstand what your poem meant to be when I read it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful poem. I think it will make me appreciate my Mom's watch even more now. I lost my Mom in September of 2000. I have never really dealt with the loss yet because circumstances in my life have not allowed it. Poems like yours help the tears to flow and the healing to begin. Thank you and God bless you.
